Project Description
Every single day ~165,000 people died in the US in 2023. 1 in 5 people will experience the death of someone very close to them before they turn 18 (and approximately 6 million of those under 18 will experience the death of a parent, sibling, or primary caregiver by the time they turn 18). However, these heartbreaking and awakening numbers don’t include how we lose ourselves, our homes, relationships, jobs, safety, and so much more during our life’s journey.
Grief surrounds us. It’s the only thing in life that is inevitable, yet we avoid it manifesting illness, trauma, and so much more. What we often forget when wanting to avoid it, is we already know it. From the second we leave the womb we are grieving. Grieving the comfort and connection of what we once knew- our home.
Sunday Mournings is the home for love and loss. Our mission is to change the cultural messaging surrounding grief by cultivating authentic connections and conversations through heartfelt gifting.
I felt my purpose to change cultural messaging around our grief-avoidant culture start slowly because I first had to change the messaging for myself, and then I could no longer ignore the call. My heart filled with fire to help support loved ones remember how to connect with each other.
We need to change the conversations about grief- we need to have them. We need to tell our stories not just for ourselves, but for each other and with each other. Sunday Mournings helps start the conversations, extend a hand when you don’t know what to say, and support the grief journey beyond just the first few months.
We want to breathe life into pain and remind love of its home. At Sunday Mournings we care about being transparent.
Here is exactly where your contributions are going:
- $3,000- bulk full-color box printing + purchasing, packing supplies, and all additional design aspects.
- $1,300- Tech build-out to support remembering death anniversaries, grief dates, and more. Additionally, the final build-out of our e-comm site.
- $5,000+- Product purchasing- This is a double-win because you support small businesses (primarily women-owned) too!
This is so much more than just a business to me, this is my soul work. Without you, this project would not be possible. Are you excited to share what you've been building for years with us? How are you feeling!?
I truly can not put into words what this experience has been for me. It's expanded me in ways beyond what I could ever imagine and cracked me, and my grief, back open. Starting a business is something disguised as logistics, passion, ideas, and implementation.. but it really is meeting (or re-meeting) every crevice of yourself. An endless thank you to my partner, beautiful friends, heart-led coach, and therapist. Their patience and support are what continue to get me through and remind me of what is possible. I love you all.
